What to expect: the home staging process
What happens when you book a home stager in New Zealand?
The short answer
Home staging in New Zealand follows seven steps: make an enquiry, receive a quote, confirm your booking, pay before install day, the stager installs on the agreed day, your hire term runs (typically 4 to 6 weeks) while photos, marketing and open homes happen, and once your sale goes unconditional you let the stager know.
The steps
1.Make an enquiry
Tell a stager the rooms you'd like staged, your timing and where you are. You or your agent can make the request. Partial staging of the living area, dining or kitchen, and main bedroom keeps costs down.
2.You receive a quote
Some stagers quote from details and photos alone; others prefer a site visit first and firm up the quote from there.
3.Confirm your booking
Confirm once you're happy and have a fair idea of your timeline. Good stagers book out as dates get closer.
4.Payment
Most stagers require full payment before install day, and some take a deposit to secure your date. Your quote should set out payment terms, insurance, cancellation and extensions.
5.Install day
The house should be clean, trades finished and you out. Don't book photos for the morning of the staging.
6.Your hire term starts
The initial hire term typically runs 4 to 6 weeks, covering photos, marketing and open homes.
7.All done
When your sale goes unconditional, let the stager know so you aren't charged for extensions and the home doesn't settle with their furniture in place.
